OpenCart Webshop Development

Over a decade of OpenCart expertise — custom modules, themes, migration and performance optimization.

OpenCart is one of the most flexible open-source e-commerce platforms on the market. KARTREND Kft. has been working with OpenCart since 2012: from version 1.5 to the latest 4.x, we have worked with every major version on production projects. We have built, migrated and operate webshops with tens of thousands of products — including ones that handle thousands of orders daily (e.g., MXGuards.com).

What does this mean for you? It means nobody is learning on your project. We know which module is compatible with which version, when to use vQmod or OCMod, how to safely migrate a 1.5 webshop to 4.x without data loss, and how to optimize a sluggish admin interface to sub-second response times.

What we develop

We have long-term, production-grade experience in the following areas.

01Custom module development

Custom extensions written in PHP / MVC: import-export modules, ERP synchronization, custom payment and shipping modules, custom admin reports, automations.

02Custom themes and frontend

Responsive, mobile-first OpenCart themes with custom design. Twig templates, modern CSS, fast page loads, high conversion rates.

03Version migration

OpenCart 1.5 → 2.x → 3.x → 4.x data-preserving migration. Products, categories, customers, orders, module configurations transferred. Validated in a staging environment.

04Performance optimization

Database indexing, Redis / Memcached caching, lazy loading, image optimization (WebP / AVIF), CDN integration, query optimization. Tenfold speed increases are typical.

05Payment and shipping integration

Barion, SimplePay, OTP SimplePay, Stripe, PayPal, GLS, FoxPost, Packeta, MPL, DPD — we have live integrations with virtually every Hungarian and European provider.

06Invoicing and accounting

Számlázz.hu, Billingo, KBOSS and NAV Online Számla integrations. Automatic invoice issuance, cancellation, payment confirmations.

07ERP and warehouse sync

Bidirectional sync with SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Apicta, RaktárSziget and custom systems. Stock, price, product data, order synchronization via REST API.

08B2B features

Custom price lists, group-based discounts, customer-specific catalogs, quote requests, credit limit management, EU VAT validation.

09Multistore and multilingual

One admin, multiple webshops. Separate domain, design, product range. Multiple languages, currencies, VAT zones.

Frequently asked questions

How much does OpenCart webshop development cost?

The cost depends on project complexity: a basic webshop with a template theme starts around €1,000-2,000; with custom design and integrations, €4,000-13,000; complex B2B or large-catalog webshops typically range from €13,000 to €40,000. We can provide an exact quote after assessment.

Is it still worth choosing OpenCart in 2026?

Yes, if you need a stable, well-documented, GDPR-compliant and extensible system. OpenCart 4.x is built on modern PHP 8, performs well, and — unlike Shopify — has no monthly platform fees, and your data stays on your own server.

Can you migrate an old OpenCart 1.5 to the latest version?

Yes. We have completed dozens of 1.5 → 4.x migrations. The process first validates the entire data structure, runs the migration in a staging environment, and only goes live after validation. The risk of data loss is virtually zero.

How long does an average OpenCart project take?

A simple webshop with a template theme takes 2-4 weeks; with custom design and a few integrations, 6-10 weeks; a complex B2B project, 3-6 months.

Why OpenCart and not Shopify / WooCommerce?

OpenCart = own data, no monthly platform fees, full customizability, EU GDPR compliance. Shopify = good for fast launches, but has monthly fees and is less customizable. WooCommerce = good for small webshops, but performance issues with large catalogs. We provide tailored advice after assessment.
